Background
Ive Mendes released her self-titled first album, produced by Robin Millar back in 2002 on the label, ‘Mr Bongo’. Since it’s release, her songs are proving just as popular as they were back then and are still featured on CD compilations, TV and ad campaigns across the world.
She is famously known as the ‘Brazilian Sade’ and one of the pioneers of the new Brazilian sound in the international market. Ive became part of this new generation of Brazilian’s doing something called ‘Nu Brazil’ and is proud to be part of that. She is a complex composer and singer with a unique sound, someone who’s music you can not really label by genre.Ive has the ability to make the transition between Bossa and influences of Modern Soul, Smooth Jazz and Pop, with an originality that makes her unique in the market. Asia refer to her as the Smooth Pop-Jazz Diva because of her ability to be complex in her transitional musical style. She is one of the only Brazilian singers today with this amazing cosmopolitan approach to music. This is what opened doors for her music in places that other Brazilian singers had never approached before, making her mark in many territories like in Latin America, Mexico, Europe, Asia, America and finally Brazil. Her worldwide success is sustained by her renowned intimate live performances with her extraordinary individual charm and charisma that is simply mesmerizing on stage.
Her eagerly awaited new album ‘Magnetism’ (produced by Ive Mendes with and the late Mark Smith) was released as a double album in Poland in October 2009 with Sony and has already reached Platinum sales status with amazing reviews so far.
Accolades have come from the UK, US, Europe and Asia for both her recorded work and her live shows. Ive Mendes is an immensely talented, attractive and professional singer/songwriter who has that global appeal for which most artists strive.
Her self titled debut album went Top 20 in Greece in it’s first week and has spent 6 weeks in the top 10 in the Philippines, Singapore, Spain Portugal, Poland, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Ive has been busy since her self titled album was released in 2003. She has had many live shows, interviews, Radio and TV appearances in the UK, Poland, Spain, Philippines, Portugal, France, Australia, Italy, Greece, Serbia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Japan. Her music is spreading across the world more recently to Eastern Europe and generating massive interest from Poland, Russia and Germany.
Ive Mendes’ music often carries a chill out vibe which takes her albums beyond the genres of ‘World Music’. This stemmed from what inspired her and what she was listening to at the time of writing the first album, notably Cafe Del Mar and Buddha Bar compilations, which gave her own music that same appeal and she was delighted with the result. Many songs from the first album, ‘Ive Mendes’ can now be found on chill out compilations worldwide.
